Nerijus Masikonis

I'm Nerijus, a full-stack engineer who builds product and growth systems for seed-stage startups.

  • Problem-first, tool-secondI focus on what moves the needle, not what sounds impressive. Tech choices follow business needs—no over-engineering, no chasing trends.
  • Ship fast, iterate fasterI move quickly without breaking things. Launch, measure, learn, improve. Speed matters at seed stage, but so does staying live.
  • Async by defaultI work independently across time zones. Strong written communication, clear updates, unblock myself. No constant Slack check-ins needed.
  • Growth + product thinkingI understand what drives revenue and retention, not just how to write code. I think in trade-offs—cost, time, impact.

About Me

I started building websites at 14 as a hobby. After finishing school, I got hired by a Swiss agency and started working remotely full-time. It wasn't a grand plan, just how things unfolded. I spent 7 years at that agency mastering web development with clients like CERN and EPFL.

But I realized code alone doesn't move the needle. Clients didn't need websites—they needed revenue. Beautiful code meant nothing if it didn't drive business outcomes. I wanted more impact, so I joined Single Grain and started working directly with Eric Siu, the founder. Eric pushed us out of our silos to think bigger picture—growth, marketing, what actually matters. That's when it clicked for me.

Since then, I've focused on building systems that combine technical depth with growth thinking. I'm not siloed—I zoom out to understand why something matters, zoom in to ship it, then zoom out again to measure impact. I work best at seed stage where this hybrid approach moves the needle fastest. Whether it's new products, AI platforms, infrastructure work, or growth marketing campaigns, I care about outcomes that drive revenue and scale.

Work Experience

Single Grain

Software Engineer

2017-2019, 2021-Present

I started managing web properties, then evolved into building products and growth systems. Working alongside expert marketers, I learned how digital marketing actually works—SEO, conversion optimization, the full funnel.

In 2023, I built a complete programmatic SEO technology stack when it was still emerging—generated $105K revenue from $28K spend (269% ROI), 1,670 leads, and 2 new clients. In 2024, I self-initiated a homepage redesign that increased leads 40%.

Early 2025, I spotted an opportunity to automate content creation with AI. I initiated an internal pilot, then led development of ClickFlow—now generating 100+ blog drafts weekly at 10x lower cost ($250 → $25 per post). I'm also building AI features for Karrot.ai, a B2B marketing platform.

Lead Developer → Technical Consultant

2019-2025

I joined as the first full-time developer when the platform was incomplete—inherited messy code from offshore contractors and had to rebuild the foundation. I refactored core systems, completed the site, and built the technical architecture that scaled from 250K to 1.25M monthly visitors while revenue grew 6x.

In 2024, the site started experiencing daily outages. I self-initiated a complete infrastructure migration—researched providers, coordinated with the new host, and executed the move with zero downtime. Outages dropped to zero.

I spent almost 2 years working with the investment banker on acquisition due diligence—data analysis, retention reports, business metrics. The company became the #1 Fastest-Growing Education Company on Inc5000, earned recognition on TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential Companies, and was acquired by Newsela for $100M in 2025.

Developer → Lead Developer

2010-2017

I started my career at a Swiss web agency in Geneva, working remotely when remote wasn't common. I spent 7 years there mastering web development—building sites for clients like CERN, Notz Stucki, EPFL, and Newby of London, handling high-stakes projects that had to ship on time.

This was my foundation. I learned how to write clean code, ship under pressure, and work remotely effectively. But I realized clients didn't need websites—they needed business outcomes. That's what pushed me toward startups.
